![]() Manx (liquidus lacerta) are a type of elemental drake that exclusively inhabit liquids. Individuals have the interesting ability to retain their shape or revert to a liquid form, a useful mechanism for traveling through waterways while avoiding predation. Their courting and reproduction is extremely elusive and remains largely a mystery to mankind. Locals of native areas gather eggs found in the wild, which often simply appear as a colorful splatter of droplets on bark or under large leaves. Once hatched in captivity, specimens are very social and bond with their owners. They make an excellent pet for children, as they only require water to flourish. Since their stomachs fill with water, their midsections remain clearer than the rest of their bodies. Some petstores have taken advantage of this, and color the drinking water of animals on sale. Manx cannot be poisoned, which have led some to feeding their manx chemicals commonly found in glowsticks for special night festivals. The more elusive droplet manx drake is not sold in stores because they are smaller, are less intelligent, do not bond, refuse drinking water and do not come in fancy colors. The only method dedicated owners use to keep them alive is to keep specimens in tanks with constant high humidity. In a natural environment the animals are short-lived and evaporate, and new eggs fall from the sky with rain, hence their small stature and tails. Some scientists believe these animals do not die when they evaporate, but simply lose their shape similar to larger manx, instead turning into a gas or mist to travel with clouds. ![]() While manx are common pets and companions for adults and children alike, they are woefully unhelpful for many tasks. For centuries shika (rangier gazella) have been bred to assist with everything from transport to hauling, and sometimes just larger companions if very carefully housetrained. As they became more common, some enthusiasts began to breed different localities of these animals, sometimes paying high prices for far off colors with dramatic markings. Today shika come in a wide variety of types, readily available everywhere and relatively easy to care for. Both males and females of the species have antlers, which are shed and regrow yearly. Because of this constant supply of sturdy bone in various colors, many towns have taken to the art of carving. Everything from utensils to ornaments with various colors of antlers worked together have been carved. Certain stables such as the royal guard adorn their armor with antlers, believing the deer will both protect them when riding and on foot. The guard and other specialized breeds of shika have been bred over the years for both color and beneficial talents. While these animals are also available to the public, the strong colors denote what line the animal is from. For example, important telegraphs that rely on speed to reach their destination have bred a line of these deer not only to be fast, but to be solid raven-black in color. |
