Before anything, you have to read the RULES. Then read this whole FAQ post. Basics Q: What is Squiby for? A: Squiby is an adoptable site. You can adopt pets made by other members and you can make your own. There's also games and roleplays in the forum. Q: Do I have to sign up for an account? A: No, but it's highly recommended. You won't be able to save your adoptables' codes or use them as your forum avatar if you don't. Q: Am I allowed to have more than one profile? A: There's no set rule against it right now, but there is an adoptable limit on each account for a reason. It's recommended that you not have more than one in case the rules about it change later. Q: Can I change my username? A: Yes, log into your account, go here, type in your new name, and click the button. Q: I had an old account, but I forgot the username/password/email. A: There's a forgot username/password option when you try to log in now. Q: How do I delete my account? A: You can't. Admins can't delete it either. If you don't want an account anymore, just sign out. Adoptables/Adopting Q: How do I start adopting? A: Go to the homepage and pick something you like or you can go here and browse all of them or you search tags and names for a specific kind. Q: Which artist has really good adoptables? A: These are MY personal favorites, but I like: Deebs, Raspberry Truffle, Rhie, technikos, Uke_Sora, jamew85, Ixel, Azulla, Neekko, wolfiemeeps, fuzzybum, little-kitty-Momo, Kiyi-chan, elen89, and LiveKawaii. Long list, sorry, heh. Just search around though, there's LOTS of amazing artists that I didn't list here. Q: Where do I find my pets after I adopt them? A: Here. Q: I adopted pets, but I don't see them in Your Adoptions. A1: You can adopt pets while you're not logged in. There's no way to find them, they're adopted by a "guest" AKA you not logged in. Whoever is logged in will see their name under them, so I see KasaraEm13 as the owner. If you saved the pets HTML or BBcode, you can still post them in your profile or other sites, but you can't add them to your account, they can never be used for things like your avatar on the forums. If you don't have the codes, you'll just have to go back and readopt them. A2: You might have gotten a MYSQL error. Just try adopting the pet again. Make sure you aren't using special characters in the pet's name, like an apostrophe or anything else, try just plain letters. Q: But they were limited! I can't get or find them again! A: You might be able to tell the creator about it, they might let you adopt another one if it was limited (and if they're nice). But please, do NOT harass creators for passwords, limited/private pets, or ANY reason. You'll have to search for the pet again if you just can't find it. Q: What does freezing a pet do? A: It freezes the pet on that stage. Instead of evolving to its next stage when it hits a certain level, it will stay on the picture you froze it at forever. You need it for certain pets to complete their picture, but you can use it to keep a pet at the stage you like best. A: How do those cool multi-part pets work? Q: Adopt as many pets as you need/want, level them up to the needed level, then freeze the first part of the picture. Continue as many times as needed. Q: A pet I want has a password on it. How do I get the password? A: Password adoptables are either private and only certain people, like the person who commissioned the pet to be made or a good friend, will get the password to it. Or it's to a game or a hunt, creators posted clues, hints, and riddles around the site and forum before, then if you figured out the right password from the clues, you could adopt it. But when the forums were lost, so were most of the clues. You may ask the creator for the password or hints if they're still active, but please do NOT harass them. Also, you are not allowed to share passwords if you aren't the creator of the pet, if you've got the password to a pet, keep it to yourself and do not share it. Q: My adoptable has disappeared! I can see its name and level, but not it! A: If they look like this, it was deleted by the artist or by an admin. Either way, you can't get it back. You could ask the artist why they deleted it, ask them nicely to put it back up, so you can readopt it, but be nice about it, don't harass them if they say no or don't tell you why they deleted it. If they were deleted by an admin for breaking Squiby rules, because they had inappropriate content or they were stolen, you'll probably see a warning on the artist's profile about it. Q: Is there a limit to how many pets I can have? A: Yes, it's 2500. Unlimited for the time being. Q: Can your pets die? Do they start dying if you don't click them for a while? A: No, nothing will happen to them if you don't click on them. Getting Clicks Q: How do my pets grow/hatch/level up? A: Just click them or get other people to click them. Q: How do I get people to click my pets once I've adopted them? A1: You can make a click thread in this forum. Only ONE thread per user though, if you make more than one, all but one of the threads will be deleted. Look at other people's click threads to get the general idea of them. A2: Go around to other people's profiles and click them, then either post a comment on their profile or a post in their click thread saying you clicked them. More Clicks/"Cheating" Q: I want more clicks! My pets aren't leveling fast enough! A: There's others sites you can use to level your pets faster, but it's pretty widely considered cheating. If you want to earn your clicks one by one, this isn't for you. Q: I still want to level my pets faster, I don't care how. A: OK, you asked for it. The site I like to use is called Utopia. Another site is Hydra, I've tried it, but I didn't like it as much, it slowed down my computer a lot. There's also Yarolds, I've never tried it myself, but I know other users have. Whatever you do, just don't use click bots, they seriously lag the site and that's no fun for anyone. Q: So, how do these sites work? A: Each one is a little different, but pretty much: you click others' links, you get some kind of credits, credits are used to put your link up for others, and then they click you. Creating Q: What do I use to create adoptables? A: Most people use Photoshop, but Gimp works too, or even Paint for pixel art. Any editing program will work. Q: How do I create my own? A: Draw how ever many stages you want, go here, put in all the info you want, and click Create. Make sure you read the rules on creating new adoptables first though. If you mess something up, don't worry, you can edit it after you create it. Q: I need more help than that! A: I'm not going to pretend I'm an expert on this. elen89 has a great tutorial with Pixlr for beginners here and a bit more advanced with Photoshop here. For other programs you might be using, Google some drawing tutorials. Q: Am I allowed to use stuff I find on dA or Google as long as I edit it? A: NO. You are not allowed to use others' art, pictures, sprites, or anything else. It HAS to be drawn BY YOU. Please, read this thread entirely for more info on what you can and cannot do with regards to other's artwork. Bugs and Problems Q: I've got my adoptable(s) all ready to create, but I'm having a problem with the site. A: Read this thread for issues with creating/editing adoptables. This is the main bug thread, it should list all bugs. The Forum Q: *starts to ask a question again* A: Wait! Read the RULES one more time first, they apply mostly in the forums. Each forum might have their own rules too, look out for stickies and read what the section is about before posting. Q: What do the little people user icons mean next to people's names in the forum? A: Blue means they're a normal member. Gold means they have a gold account. Pink means they're an admin. Purple, exclusive to chocolatefudge, means owner. It doesn't mean their gender or they're royalty or something. Q: What's a gold account? A: A paid account you can buy with $5 (sorry, you'll have to convert that into your own currency if you aren't in the US). You cannot purchase gold accounts at the moment. Q: How do I ping someone? A: Put an @ in front of their name, ie @KasaraEm13. They'll get an alert that says someone talked to them in that thread. People with spaces, periods, or other special characters can't get pings though, they will need to change their username the next time they log in. Q: What timezone is the forum set on? Can I change it to reflect my timezone? A: Eastern Standard Time or UTC - 5 hours. You cannot change it. HTML Help Q: I need HTML help in the forum. What are the basics? A: The very basics are: <b>Text</b> for bold text. <i>Text</i> for italic text. <s>Text</s> for struck through text. <u>Text</u> for underlined text. <img src="Image URL"> for a picture. <a href="URL Link">Text Link</a> for a Text Link <font color="#Hex Code">Text</font> for colored text, this is hex code #CC1100. You can find hex codes here. Remember you can mix and match codes too, they all work together if you put them in a certain order. You can go ahead and test some in this thread if you'd like. Q: I need more HTML help. Who should I go to? A: Ask me about it on my profile or in this thread. You could also Google "HTML codes" for more. Suggestions Q: I have a great idea for Squiby! A: Post about it in here, but please check that there's not already a thread with your idea or your duplicate thread will just be locked by an admin for redundancy. Bugs and Problems Q: I found a bug/problem! A: Here's the bug list, look down it to make sure it's not already mentioned. If it's not, browse through the bug section to see if you can find a topic on it. If you can't find your bug, go ahead and post a thread on it. Your Profile Q: I want to make a cool looking profile. A: You'll need advanced HTML and CSS for that. Q: Advanced what? A: Yeah, hard to explain. You can use Neekko's Squiby Profile Generator for some things, it's partly broken though, so not everything on it works. If you actually know a little of what you're doing, you can use the clean CSS code found here and clean out what isn't needed. HTML/CSS Q: I still want it fancier. Do I use the same codes as in the forum for my profile? A: You can, but a lot of codes, called CSS, work in profiles that don't work in the forum, you'll want to learn how to use them too. You get a lot more freedom with your profile. It's also a bit harder though; for example, the forums don't force you to use the <br> tag when you want a line break, but your profile does. Q: How do I get started? A: Google is your best friend. (I'll give links in the next section. Google is still your best friend.) Categories Q: How do I make a category besides Default and Favorites on my profile? A: There's multiple links to the "Manage Categories" page. Under your name tab or under the Adoptables tab. Click on one. Add your categories from there. Q: How do I put a pet into a category? A: You move the pets into categories from Your Adoptions. Under the pet's codes, it will list all your categories in a drop down menu. Choose the one you want the pet in and click "Change Category" and it should be moved. There's also check boxes under each pet were you can select multiple ones and move them all at once. Other Account Features Q: Are there friends or friends requests? A: No, you'll just have to make friends the old fashion way: talking to the person. You can link your friends profiles in your profile for easy access or you can bookmark them in your browser. Q: What does favoriting someone do? A: It adds them to a contact list or address book in mail. You can access it by clicking on your username in the top right, clicking Mail, and then clicking on the New Message button or clicking this. When you click on the Favorites button, you'll see the admins (who are added automatically) and anyone you've added. That way, you can quickly copy and paste their name instead of needing to go to their profile to click their Mail button. Q: What does watching someone do? A: It adds them to your watch list. You'll get an event banner when people on your watch list upload a new pet. Advanced HTML/CSS Help Q: I'd like more HTML and CSS help and make my profile even prettier. A: That's great. Glad you're enjoying it. Q: So, those links? A: I mostly learned what I know by Googling. A great site to learn is w3schools.com. For testing your code without messing up your current profile, I use this site (if you have a background picture in your CSS area, just take out the link to it, so you can see your code on a plain background). To create Hex Codes without opening Photoshop, I use this color picker. There's also a bunch of special characters you can use to decorate with. Again: Google is your friend, that's only the tip of the iceberg that I listed, there's a lot more out there. Q: I want something specific/not sure what to search for/I like your profile/I can't get something to work for me. A: I'll gladly help with any code problems, but I'm not an expert on it. I'm good at forcing codes to work for me though. Just tell me what you're trying to do or what you want and I'll try my best to think of a way to do it without breaking anything. Other Q: I was banned for no reason, what can I do? A: Nothing you can do about it. You were banned for a reason. Didn't you read those rules? I linked them twice. We don't just randomly ban people, so you had multiple warnings for whatever wrong you were doing. You cannot be unbanned. You aren't supposed to start a new account; if you're found out with another one, you'll get banned again. So, thanks for joining Squiby at one point. Oooooh, OK, the table of contents has been screwed. o.O Um, I'll try to fix that... and geez, it's even longer now. Gah, I really dislike the new forum width. I'm hoping that copy-pasting the layout again will work.... Well, that's a little better.... I know that you can't go to your profile if it has a " - " in it, but I can't find out how to change my username so it does'nt have a " - " in it. Could somebody help me with this, please? :(	MiZzy-IzZy 7 Posts

@MiZzy-IzZy You can't change your username unless you register a new account. By the way, I can access your account just fine at this link (which is the link I get from clicking on your name from your post). If you're trying to get to your profile by using the top bar shortcut, it's not working for anyone right now.	Scrollskeeper 384 Posts

@ashmoroto Much as my post just above yours explain, if you're trying to reach your profile from the top tab, you currently can't. No one can. However, your profile is easily reached through this link which is the link I get from clicking on your name from your post.	Scrollskeeper 384 Posts

OK, something's bugged in here, I think... EDIT: Huh, that's really odd... *shrug* I was trying to say: Cleaned the FAQ a bit. Removed the bug sections for a few sections. I'll re-add them later with more recent bugs, if needed. Account/Profile Bugs • You can block yourself and then not be able to unblock it. There is no "Blocked User" list to unblock yourself. • Gold account won't expire even after it's supposed to wear off. • If your username has a special character in it, it will not link properly and pings will not work for you. • Link to view by time or level is incorrect, you have to add the user=*username*& part yourself to make it work. Creating/Adopting Bugs • Clicking cancel after pressing delete does not work, adoptable still get deleted. • Adoptables evolve one level more than what you set: created adoptable is set to evolve at level 50, but it will evolve at level 51. • Adoptables will instantly evolve if you delete or change the default levels from stage 2 to 3 without uploading a third stage. • Cannot edit adoptables' description, will result in a MYSQL error. If it magically works, you will see all the HTML in the description. • Cannot edit adoptables, period. Edit Creations page is a massive 404 error. @MewMix They all worked, just remember to add a line break (hit enter) after pictures. :) EDIT2: And checked for spelling errors. Bleh. @kkrayne Your avatar can be changed when you click on your username in the topright orange bar, then click Your Adoptions. Under each avatar you can see a button named 'make avatar'. As for viewing your pets, again click your name on the top right of the orange bar and select 'Your Profile'.	Scrollskeeper 384 Posts
